Abstract: The new neutronrich mercury isotope 209Hg has been identified from the separated mercury products producted in 600 MeV 18O+natPb (thick target) reaction. An online, gasthermochromatographic technique and a special detection method were used. Four γ rays following the 209Hg decay were assigned. The halflife of 209Hg was determined to be 35+9-6 s.
