Abstract: Plasma is generated by passage of strong planar shock wave through gas. Initial experiments in deuterium and equal mol mixture of hydrogen and deuterium have been performed to produce plasma with 3.7×10 -3-7.0×10 -3 g/cm 3density. The variation of the opacity of the plasma with wavelength is measured by recording the risetime of the emitted light.
