Abstract: The ΔI=1 staggering phenomenon has been investigated systematically for the normally deformed bands in the odd-A rare-earth nuclei. By extracting the values of Δ 2 E γ(I)=[E γ(I)+E γ(I-2)]/2-E γ(I-1) from the transition energies in a pair of signature partner bands, regular signature- and spin-dependent zigzag patterns are explored in a series of the neutron ↓ bands. The staggering amplitude varies with spin roughly as a parabola-like curve, the same as the behavior observed in the odd mass superdeform...
