Abstract: Polarized UV-visible absorption? fluorescence spectroscop y and second harmonic generation are used to investigate the in-plane orientation of hemicyanine molecules in photoinduced Y-type LB films. Polarized UV nanosec ond laser beam could control the hemicyanine molecular orientation and align chr omophore axes of the hemicyanine along the direction of the UV beam polarization.
